Twelfth Annual Meeting of the Inter-agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises

24-26 May 2010, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Objectives of the 12th Annual IAWG Meeting

  • Review progress towards achieving the programmatic goals and future steps outlined in the Terms of Reference following the 2008 IAWG meeting held in Cairo.
  • Share information; identify key areas of common work. Plan next steps and areas of coordination and collaboration for 2010-2011.
  • Establish a regional IAWG forum for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region which will serve to share information and lessons learned across projects in the region and enable synergistic partnerships to minimize duplication of efforts and to fill gaps.

The meeting will bring together individuals dedicated to improving the reproductive health outcomes of those affected by conflict or natural disasters. Organizations working in reproductive health or in crisis-affected settings are encouraged to attend, including new members to the IAWG.

During the meeting, participants will divide into small working groups to identify gaps and solutions for the thematic area, and determine priority activities for 2010-11. You will be able to select your preferred working group when you register. The groups have been capped to ensure balanced participation across all thematic areas, if a group comes up as unavailable the cap has been reached.

Requirements

All agencies are requested to submit a one A4 page summary (single-sided) in Word on their work on reproductive health in crises, for distribution at the annual meeting. Please coordinate with colleagues from your agency if you are aware that multiple staff will be attending the meeting. Please submit the document to Chelsea Cooper at ChelseaC@archq.org by April 30, 2010.

All participants are highly encouraged to complete the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) Module before the IAWG meeting. The MISP for Reproductive Health is a coordinated set of priority activities to be implemented at the onset of every emergency, and the module aims to increase humanitarian actors' knowledge of the priority reproductive health services. The module takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete, and scoring 80% or higher on the post-test will enable you to become certified in the MISP module. The module and post-test can be accessed here.
